Both the Swahili and Somali language online broadcasts of BBC this week focus on the ongoing attempts to stablize Somalia. There has been an increase in interest, in part, due to the involvement of the African Union. For further information about the African Union go to this link: http://www.africa-union.org/ I will let you read and make your own conclusions but you will notice your flash player highlight the need for "an effective and efficient union for Africa !!! and the fact that Africa must Unite !!! I know things take time but it has been 8 years and it seems to me that not much has happened in terms of progress towards the Union's goals. The lofty goals taken on are needed but seem so far out of reach. I certainly wish them every luck and continuation in the direction of these goals. What are your goals? Maybe not as lofty as the one's by the African Union but you should have some, at least, and post them somewhere so you can be held accountable by some blogger. Here are some of African countries (that I know of) that are currently involved in civil strife and in no particular order: Somalia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Uganda and Central African Republic. In short, millions of people are in the midst of chaos, anarchy and heartache.
Training yesterday consisted of a long run of 01:30:00 which took me 02:00:00 to complete. Don't ask me how !!! Alarms were raised as I had initially planned on going for an hour but after I hooked up with Scott (who will be doing the Boston Marathon this year), I lost track of time and miles. Scott was doing a tempo run at marathon pace which made me wonder what he would have left in the tank come race day. Today was a rest day which took me to Duncan for work and tomorrow will be an easy run.

Interesting post. That so much of Africa is in strife underscores Canada's miguided efforts in Afghanistan, in my opinion. Why are we not directing equal or greater resources to assisting peaceful change in Africa or other areas of the world? To me it is obvious that Canada's role in Afghanistan is primarily politically motivated to assist Anglo-American agendas in Iraq and the middle east. In my mind it isn't acceptable that our government misleads the public as to it's reasons for being in Afghanistan, especially when it effectively turns a blind eye to serious problems elsewhere in the world.
hugh: world politics is as complex as humans on any given day. who makes decisions and why they make them are very hard things to pin down.
Yes, and there will always be legitimate arguments for all the various perspectives on an issue. Of that much we can be sure. Still, there is a responsibility among the electorate and their representatives to examine publicly those arguments. ...sorry, I'm not meaning to make your post the centre of a political rant...
