It is the day of reckoning. Will Bekele do it again? From the IAAF site: "Five-time World Cross Country champion Paul Tergat who is acting as one of the local Ambassadors for today’s 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, Mombasa, Kenya expects Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele to score a record sixth victory in this afternoon's long race."
Will his prediction be right? No news yet but I will have more later.
Latest, Bekele dropped out of the race. I am sure everyone will be anxiously awaiting his take on things and the race. According to the IAAF site and I quote: "Less than five minutes after he was apparently dropped by the mighty Ethiopian, Eritrea’s World Road Running champion Zersenay Tadesse not only made up the gap, but went on to pummel past Bekele to produce what will certainly be remembered as the biggest upset of these World Cross Country Championships." Now I am not one to criticize but "pumel" give me a break - Bekele was suffering and I am sure he made the decision not in haste but to protect his running career. Why risk everything when your health could be jeopardized. Anyway, that is the end of this chapter of the World Cross although not the end of Bekele, I am sure he will be back to dismiss all the naysayers. He is the BEST that we have seen.
Today's workout wasn't as stifling for me as we ran in cool and wet conditions. 5 x 1k with a lot of surges put in (although I am told I am confused about the effort) by one of my colleagues. It was a great workout for me and I averaged faster than I have this past month. So, what does this mean? At least, I know I wouldn't be making it to the starting list of any WXC race.

It surely must have been the tailwind that confused you. Darn wind playin' tricks again!
ha ha !!! champ. I am still new to this track game. although the headwind should have equalized the effort.
